Have you got a game that you enjoy such as Battlefield 2, 1942, 2142, Bad Company 2, Crysis, Crysis Wars, Call Duty 1, UO , 2 etc Well here is some really bad news. Unless the Game Dev's do anything Any Multiplayer game that uses the Gamespy servers will no longer have access to the Gamespy Server Browser.

According to there latest info found here.

http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/pricing/
http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/c ... _may_31st/

So what does this mean, basically they are shutting down the master servers which is how the game server browser works and gets it info from.

This even includes games such as the ARMA series including Version 3.

Here is a known list so far of games effected.

  • Alien vs Predator (Classic)
    Alien vs Predator 2

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent
    (Starsiege) Tribes
    Tribes 2
    Tribes Vengeance
    Two Worlds
    Two Worlds 2
    Unreal Gold
    Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War

A full list of Games that use Gamespy in one form or another can be found here

http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/projects/

It will now be upto the Game Developers to see if they can now come about with a way to keep the multiplayer side working.

Just thought i'd let you all know.

GameSpy is related to all battlefield series up to badcompany 2 as it uses the Gamespy master servers for the server browser. If you have a look in BF2 at the bottom you'll see a gamespy logo its also on the retail box.

If you look at the bottom between the Join and Logout button it states Powered By: GameSpy (Its Logo) just before the PunkBuster Logo.

According to what i am reading on Reddit BC2 might be safe but BF1942 BF2 BF2142 is no waiting in the balance for EA / Dice to do something. Even crysis is effected LOL

Any server should be fine , gamespy is only used for the browser listing so you get all the servers in a neat listing that you can filter for your preferences.
Back in the years when I had my own rootserver I ran bf2 with the aix mod, It was an amazing flying show every time although I wasn't a pro pilot.

I think only the Server Browser will stop to work, don't believe that gamespy is needed for the game itself. But you won't see any servers in the list then.

Could be wrong on that though, I've got no source of information just what I think.

Your right freefallcid, The browser will stop working completely so unless the game has a Direct IP connect like in Battlefield 2, 2142 etc then your knackered.

However to my suprise some of the Developers whom have release the game on steam are working with steam to overcome even that issue So ARMA II and III are save as well as BF2 and 2142 not sure about Bad Company 2 but people are saying that moved to EA server browsing on the last patch for that game. Only time will tell.

this possibilty is there. it might be possible to connect if you know the IP of the server you want to play on, or via favorites. But what i read, it is all uncertain.
