Hello all and in this thread i will show you how to Optimize Battlefield 4.

As most of you might remember there was a method in Battlefield 3 to which you made a User.cfg file and altered some commands to either increase FPS or Smooth out any Lags, it also included in-game tools to find out what was causing issues, such as bottlenecking.

So myself and BadKev has been looking around and we can also do this in Battlefield 4.

So what do you have to do to begin with.

Head Over to your Battlefield 4 Installation directory which by default is c:\Program Files\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 if your using a 32bit Operating System or c:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 if your using a 64bit Operating System. Yours might be different but we will use the standard install setup as the example here.

Once you are in the root directory of your Battlefield 4 install make a file called user.cfg now there is two ways of doing this.

One way is the standard right click and select New > Text Document (this will leave a trailing .txt extension) or you can do the second way which is Pressing WinKey+R and then typing in the runbox, Notepad c:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\user.cfg and this will open a Notepad window with a new file made called user.cfg. Now please remember to change the install directory location to match where you installed Battlefield 4.

Now you can Paste the following into user.cfg

Quote:

########################################
########################################
#### ####
#### Battlefield 4 ####
#### User.cfg Tweaks and Settings ####
#### Version 1.0 ####
#### ####
########################################
########################################

## Each Setting has a 0 (Off) or 1 (On) Setting

##Enable Overlay
PerfOverlay.Enable 1
Render.DrawScreenInfo 1

##Draw Chat and Hud (Use 0 for Movies)
UI.DrawEnable 1

##Draw FPS and Graphs
PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 0
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1

##Set MaxFPS
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 90

##Set Direct X11 or 11.1
RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 0
RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1Enable 1
RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1RuntimeEnable 1

##Enable FXAA
WorldRender.FxaaEnable 0

##V-Sync, Force Render (CPU), Triple Buffering
RenderDevice.VSyncEnable 0
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 1 ## Turn Off Vsync ingame or you will get rubber banding issues
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1

##Graphical Performance Tweaks
WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapEnable 0
WorldRender.TransparencyShadowmapsEnable 1
Worldrender.SpotLightShadowmapresolution 64 ## (64, 128, 256, 512, 1024) Lower = Poor Quality Higher= Better Quality
WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0
WorldRender.LightTileCsPathEnable 0
PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 0

Now this is what the contents of the attached file is and as you can see i have split them up for you into easy segments.
Each command other then Worldrender.SpotLightShadowmapresolution has a 0 or 1 which is off and on.

Simply change the settings to how you like it find a empty server to test, with the added suggestion that you have PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 0 set to PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 1 so that you can monitor for spikes in CPU and GPU via a graph. on this graph your aiming for both CPU and GPU to be level with each over and a smooth line to match not all of use will get that but some of us might.

Once you have your settings how you like it you may return PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 1 to PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 0 as its not needed anymore and that can be the same with PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1 to PerfOverlay.DrawFps 0.

Now the rule of thumb i have found is best on one setting is GameTime.MaxVariableFps 90 should always be 30 above framerate. This will allow for a smoother framerate and less framerate dropping.

The other best tip i can offer is V-Sync if your using TripleBuffer have V-Sync off if your not using TripleBuffer have V-Sync on. You can not have both on without rubberbending.

One more last tip for you all if your after a few more frames per second revert all RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1 commands from 1 to 0 and place RenderDevice.Dx11Enable to 1.

Now have fun and tweak away just remember to have a backup of the file before each tweak session as this might come in handy.

Oh one more last thing Even though this was and still is working fine on Battlefield 3 with PB Servers its always best to be mindful that this might cause a issue. I have yet to see a ban or error from PB for using builtin commands from Battlefield 3 or 4.

Once again enjoy!

Thanks to halogijs for the SLI part!

Souljar, thanks for heads up with Overclocks.net. I have had a look and to me the Profile_save bit is not needed really as the edited strings can be added to user.cfg i will update the CFG so that we do not loose our settings like what will happen if we used the profile_save trick.
